Mockers and Scoffers

Matthew 24:37-46 -  But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,

39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

40 Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.

41 Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left.

42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.

43 But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.

44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.

45 Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?

46 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.

Here we see Jesus clearly saying that Noah had been telling people to get right with God and repent.  People saw him building this ark and saw the animals supernaturally coming into the ark.  They saw things that are clearly out of place and yet they just kept on with their lives as if Noah was crazy for following God’s commands.

I wonder how many people called Noah crazy or said that he was speaking to demonic voices.

Jesus continues to talk about 2 men in the field – one being taken and the other left, and the two women grinding at the mill – one will be taken and the other left.

Pay close attention to what comes next.

Watch therefore… do you know that Jesus commands us to watch more than he actually says to love one another? That doesn’t take away from loving one another being the greatest of the commands, but it should speak to us that he fervently told us from his own mouth to Watch.

Verse 43 explains, if the owner of the house had known the time that the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into.

This insinuates that there will be some divine communication as far as the time that something will happen specifically with Jesus’ return.

I don’t see Jesus here saying that we shouldn’t be trying to figure out when his return will be.  Quite the opposite, those of us who watch the signs and the due season are blessed for doing so.

Ok, ok, I know – Acts 1:7.  Let’s take a look at the full context.

Acts 1:7 - 6  When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?

And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.

But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Here they are asking about the restoration of Israel. Jesus does tell them it’s not for them to know the times or seasons of the Father.  However, he continues on with a “but”.

But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you.

What Jesus is saying here is that we as human beings, cannot try to discern God’s seasons or signs WITHOUT the help of the Holy Ghost.  We all have the Holy Spirit if we are truly saved.  Therefore, we can be given information and guided to understanding through that exact Holy Spirit.

In Joel, we are told that through the Holy Spirit we will receive dreams and visions in the end times.

Joel 2:28-29  And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:

29 And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit.

30 And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke.

31 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and terrible day of the Lord come.

32 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the Lord hath said, and in the remnant whom the Lord shall call.

In Acts 2, Peter reiterates what Joel said.  After the Pentecost when people were speaking in tongues and filled with the Holy Spirit, he reminds the people mocking those consumed with the Holy spirit that only through this Spirit are people to able to do these things.

If you’re reading this or listening to this and people are mocking you for sharing your visions, remember this isn’t the first time this has happened.

Acts 2:16-21 - 16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;

17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:

19 And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:

20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and notable day of the Lord come:

21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Then in 1 Thessalonians, Paul writes:

1 Thess 5:1-6  -  5 But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.

For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.

For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.

Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.

Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.

He is telling us that the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night (go back and re-read the above what Jesus said on this topic). He said that that day will not overtake us because we are not in darkness.  We are children of the light and he tells us to not sleep but watch and be sober.

He continues on to remind us to not be bitter and mad with those mocking and scoffing, but to hold peace in our own hearts and show them love.

Coming forth and sharing a dream or vision you’ve received is difficult. It’s made so much harder when people jump in the comments to attack you and claim that you, in fact, did not get that message from God – so ignore that certainty the Holy Spirit put on you.

Can we be fooled by evil spirits?  Sure!  But nobody else is able to judge if what you are hearing is from the Holy Spirit.  That’s why we pray for discernment.
